No Knock Raid

This is what the United States has come to. In order to provide the illusion of safety, our government has crippled our civil liberties, and trashed the Constitution through legislation such as the PATRIOT Act. Senator Barack Obama, when asked if he would vote to repeal the PATRIOT Act said:

"Yes, I would vote to repeal the U.S. Patriot Act, although I would consider replacing that shoddy and dangerous law with a new, carefully crafted proposal that addressed in a much more limited fashion the legitimate needs of law enforcement in combating terrorism (for example, permitting a warrant for the interception of cell phone calls, and not just land-based phones to accommodate changes in technology)"

However, on March 2, 2006, Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) voted to re-authorize the PATRIOT Act. In fact only 10 Senators (9 Democrats and one Independent), voted against the PATRIOT Act.  Now President Obama has already extended and expanded the PATRIOT Act, the single most heinous and un-Constitutional piece of legislation ever passed since the Alien & Sedition Acts of 1798.

Why do we as a people allow this to happen? Why do we allow our government to keep us in such fear and maintain such power over us? We are no safer for it, I would contend we are substantially less safe. We certainly are not more free. So why do we continue to allow it? The Police are not our bosses! The government is not our boss! Stand-up! Don't just roll over and do what you are told because a man in a uniform tells you to, do what you know to be right, defend your freedom from the tyranny that seems to be creeping in on our nation. You can start in 2012, by making sure that Barack Obama is a ONE TERM PRESIDENT. We cannot afford sixteen years of George W. Bush politics (Obama being a near clone of Bush, in my opinion). Twelve years is too long already. Protect your liberty, let your representatives know that the PATRIOT Act is un-American and must be repealed, or else WE THE PEOPLE will vote them out of office.

Government should fear the people, the people should not fear the government.

The Big Banks Have Sold Us Out. Democrats And Republicans Have Sold Us Out. No One Is Defending Our Interests. Our Future Is Going Up In Flames. It’s Time For Us To Stand Up And Defend Ourselves

“… Even though most politicians are totally corrupt, if many millions of Americans poured into the streets… a critical mass would be reached, and the politicians would start changing things in a hurry. As [liberal] PhD economist Dean Baker points out:

‘The elites hate to acknowledge it, but when large numbers of ordinary people are moved to action, it changes the narrow political world where the elites call the shots. A big turnout … can make a real difference.’

Similarly, no matter how completely sold-out to the Wall Street giants D.C. politicians are, they would start paying attention to their real employers – the American people – if we make enough noise. If 3 million Americans all peacefully surrounded the White House and Capitol Hill, holding signs saying ‘We’re Not Leaving Until the Too Big to Fails which Caused the Economic Crisis are Reined In’, things would change pretty fast."

If millions of us don’t go protest… it’s because we are choosing not to sacrifice a tiny bit in order to change things. The bad guys are only winning because we – the American people – aren’t making enough noise and offering enough resistance.

Well, about a month before the American Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry said: ‘They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year?’

If not now, when? Like Patrick Henry asked, when will we be stronger? When will the robber barons be weaker?

If we’re going to save America, now is the time.

Similarly, conservative financial writer Karl Denninger writes today: ‘You – America – You – can fix this tomorrow. Put 500,000 people around The Treasury and The Fed and refuse to leave until Geithner and Bernanke both resign and depart and the FDIC goes through all four of the largest banks, marks their ‘stuff’ to market, and resolves all that are insolvent. Lay peaceful siege, MLK-style.’

How can both liberals and conservatives be calling for the same thing – massive protests against the banking elites and their water-carriers in D.C.?

Bad Parenting of the Week 1

Talk about mean and cruel... I understand that some people are poor, and I know very well what it is like to have to live on a budget, but that is no excuse to break a kids heart. What's worse is when the woman tells the child to "look at the camera and cry".  This is why kids grow up cynical, grow cold and turn bad. Ladies and gentlemen, this is where thugs come from. Shame on these people. This video has already gotten a lot of awful responses over at YouTube, but I encourage everyone to let these people know how they feel both here in the comments, and over at YoutTube. This isn't right. Children should not be treated this way.

What do you think? Leave you comment below...

War on Drugs leads to gun smuggling nightmare

WASHINGTON - According to CBS, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has been involved in undercover operations to smuggle high-powered weapons into Mexico, probably as some sort of tracking operation. Now many of those weapons are in the hands of ruthless drug traffickers, which they are using to intimidate and kill people.

Libertarian Party chair Mark Hinkle issued this statement today:

"This is another sad chapter in the long story of the terribly destructive War on Drugs. Now our own government is apparently involved in smuggling weapons to drug lords in Mexico. This story is as bizarre as it is depressing.

"The War on Drugs has caused far more death and destruction than it has prevented. The War on Drugs is a failure in almost every measurable way. The War on Drugs should end.

"It's becoming more and more unclear whether the U.S. government even wants the violence to decrease. More drug violence means more jobs for federal drug agents. More drug arrests mean more jobs for prison construction and management contractors. There are a lot of people whose income depends on a big, thriving, unsuccessful War on Drugs.

"If the War on Drugs were halted, there would no longer be any such thing as 'drug trafficking.' Violence in Mexico would decrease very dramatically, as drug lords would quickly go out of business.

"A lot of liberals and libertarians were hoping that President Obama and a Democratic Congress might at least tone down the War on Drugs, but they have done nothing of the kind. They have kept this war going as strong as ever.

"It looks like those of us opposed to the War on Drugs can forget about help from the Democratic Party. Only the Libertarian Party will fight to end the misguided, wasteful, and destructive War on Drugs.

"One of the things that saddens me is that our foolish and unjust drug laws are leading to the deaths of thousands of Mexican citizens. Those Mexicans can't vote in our elections to change our drug laws -- they just have to wait and hope they aren't the drug lord's next victim.

"We Libertarians call for an end to the War on Drugs: an end to federal prohibition of the possession and sale of narcotics. Would that lead to increased drug abuse? It's hard to know -- probably not much -- but nothing could be worse than the death and destruction our government has unleashed with its War on Drugs."

Postage Paid Mailers

As you no doubt already know from previous posts, I like to take advantage of pre-paid envelopes. It helps support the United States Postal Service, and more importantly, it costs money for those companies that continue to send me unwanted junk mail. So I was intrigued when a friend recently asked me if I could tape one of those envelopes to something heavy (like a brick) and use it as a mailing label. I wasn't sure, so I did some research.

How does Postage Paid Work?

This was the first thing I wondered. I could not help but think that these mailers may be paid for whether they are used or not, and thus I may be wasting my time. But that is not at all how they work... In fact, this is how the USPS themselves explain Postage Paid Permits...
Permit Imprints are the most popular way to pay for postage, especially for high volume mailings. Instead of using precancelled stamps or a postage meter, the mailer prints postage information in the upper right corner of the mailpiece. This postage block is called a permit imprint.

To use your permit imprint, you set up a postage account at the Post Office where you’ll be depositing your mail. When you bring your mailing to the Post Office, the total postage is deducted from your account. It’s like having a checking account at the Post Office.

So when you use one of those envelopes, or one of those little cards stuck in a magazine (called "blow-in cards"), it does, in fact, cost the company money. There will be a debit maid from their account at the post office. So each First Class envelope (up to 13 ounces) costs them 44 cents.

Not bad, but can we mail a brick and really hit'em where it hurts?

No.

Unfortunately, the bricks-for-business scheme, admirable though it is in theory, won't work in practice. According to rule 917.243(b) in the Domestic Mail Manual, when a business reply card is "improperly used as a label" — e.g., when it's affixed to a brick — the item so labeled may be treated as "waste." That means the post office can toss it in the trash without further ado.

Once upon a time things were different. Years ago, they tell me, postal regulations required that all business reply mail be delivered, whether the cards were affixed to bricks, 2x4s, or hand grenades. Furthermore, the recipient was required to pay full first-class postage (a good buck, in the case of a brick) plus 18 cents handling per piece. However, the direct-mail firms usually worked out a deal with the local postmaster whereby unwanted building materials and whatnot  somehow became "lost", getting the mailing firm off the hook.

The current regulation makes it unnecessary to resort to this subterfuge. But most people don't realize the mailing firms won't get stuck with the tab, so a fair amount of oddball junk still finds its way into the nation's mailboxes. The postal service regards this as a pain in the neck, and therefore it seems completely unreasonable to try to mail a brick, or any other such nonsense, since it would be a waste of time and effort. Also you might be charged with "abuse of the postal system." It does still make sense, and is perfectly legal, to simply stuff those envelopes full of other junk mail; or funny notes; or scraps of paper; or whatnot and at least make the bastards pay the 44 cents for first class shipping.

Now go have fun!
