Google | Our new overlords...

With all the services Google openly owns and operates, and the ones they invest heavily in, is there anywhere in modern life we can go to escape our new Google overlords? Does it even matter? There is no doubt that most of what Google does, they do well, but should we be entrusting to much to one company?
