In a bout of religious rhetoric, Beck told participants at the rally “Something beyond imagination is happening… America today begins to turn back to God. For too long, this country has wandered in darkness.” Empty words, from a political opportunist who presumes to speak for America. I for one say that if Beck were to be the face of the American Citizenry, I would proudly stand-up and sing “Oh Canada”.

The rally rightfully drew fire for its timing and location.

People filled the park by the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool, on the anniversary of the most pivotal civil rights address in America’s history — the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which was delivered at the same location 47 years ago.

Although he denied it, and denied that the rally was political in nature, Beck clearly tried to usurp the day for his own political gain. The Rev. Jesse Jackson was quoted by CNN saying Beck was mimicking King and “humiliating the tradition.” Beck insults the intelligence of all of us if he expects us to believe he is absent minded enough to have picked this date purely coincidentally.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, perhaps the perfect antithesis for Beck & certainly an intellectual equal, and his “National Action Network” gathered nearby with a “Reclaim the Dream” rally. Participants in this rally marched from a high school in northwest Washington, D.C., to the site of the future Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, just a few blocks from the Lincoln Memorial.

Beck said the site of his rally was appropriate to reflect on the legacy of King, “the man who stood down on those stairs and gave his life for everyone’s right to have a dream.”

Beck repeatedly claimed his rally was nonpolitical and its mission was to honor American troops. But as a veteran of Iraq & Afghanistan, and an open atheist, I can tell you this rally did little for me other than make me ashamed of the direction our country appears to be heading. I was saddened to see how many people actually rallied to support this mad man.

Beck struck a spiritual tone throughout the day, saying his role was to wake America up to the backsliding of principles, values and most importantly, faith. Earlier, he said “God dropped a giant sandbag on his head” to push him to organize the event.

Beck, keenly aware of his critics, opened the rally shortly after 10 a.m. with the national anthem and immediately drew attention to the large crowd that stretched for six city blocks from the Lincoln Memorial along the parks surrounding the reflecting pool.

“I have just gotten word from the media that there are over 1,000 people here today,” Beck said sarcastically.

“We are humbled that you are here,” he said. “The reflecting pool holds about 200,000 people. This field back here holds about 250- to 300,000 people. They are not only full here, they’re full in that field, they’re full behind me, and they are now across the street approaching the Washington Monument.”

Tea Party activists from across the country attended the event. Turning out in what was surely one of the most manufactured and insincere events ever held in this historical location.

Speakers included former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who said she came to speak not about politics but as “something more” — as the mother of a soldier. She said America’s men and women in uniform exemplified the virtues and values of America.

“Say what you want to say about me, but I raised a combat vet and you can’t take that away from me,” she said to a crowd that broke out in chants of “U.S.A! U.S.A!”

She also noted the anniversary of the famous civil rights speech, saying, “We feel the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Beck had been heavily promoting the event on his Fox News Channel program and on his radio broadcasts. He claims that the timing of the rally wasn’t intentional. But that seems like a pretty big coincidence to me…

“Whites don’t own Abraham Lincoln. Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King. Those are American icons, American ideas, and we should just talk about character, and that’s really what this event is about. It’s about honoring character,” Beck said.

Lenny McAllister, an African American Republican, was asked by the Tea Party to speak at Saturday’s rally but declined. He said the rally was disrespectful to the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I cannot sit on stage and co-sign on this irresponsibility,” he said. “I made sure I wore my elephant pin today. I am a proud Republican but I am also a proud African American man.”

I for one think anyone who honestly believes this rally was not political in nature is deluded. It’s no coincidence Sarah Palin was there, this is all apart of her build up towards her 2012 campaign. It’s just sad to me that people like Palin and beck will stoop so low as to use the troops as a back drop for their political aspirations, and tarnish the anniversary of such a pivotal moment in civil rights history.

Archery at its finest. Elbow up in the proper position, target locked in, and lots of arches for the observers to look at. Netflix members can start watching videos and get instant access to their queue by downloading the free 1.1.0 version to their Apple gadget. The app requires a Netflix membership or the set up of a free 30-day trial account. The popular video subscription service launched a mobile version of its video streaming for the iPad in April.

Not an Apple fanboy (or girl)? Fear not, the rumor mill says Netflix has an app in the works for Android.

I am personally, morally opposed to the construction of this mosque, and I find it’s presence to be deeply offensive. I should point out, that I would also be offended if people were building a Church there. I am aware that there are Mosques that exist in the area, and that several of them were there well before the World Trade Center was erected. I have no real issues with the preexisting religious institutions in the area. However I do take great offense to adding more.

I am also aware that my personal opinion means little, and I would NEVER advocate trying to take away these people’s right to build their Mosque, but at the same time, I fully intend to exercise my right to voice my opinion on the subject. I have been hopeful that enough of a public outcry would dissuade their actions, but it seems we’ve not cried loud enough. 9/11 should stand as a reminder of what religion, and unquestioning devotion to a god leads to. It was the act of RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS, which is why I am offended by the notion of ANY religious institution being constructed on the site. I stand by my belief that religion can ultimately only serve to divide us as a people. The fact that the religious institution being built happens to be one representing the most repressive, backwards, intolerant and evil religions practiced today only makes it worse.

Christianity, is itself a pretty heinous and demented belief system if you actually read the Bible. It too advocates outright evil, like stoning your daughter, just as Islam does. Christianity also has many strange rules such as not eating shrimp, and it makes strange claims, like rabbits chew cud. But there is one difference between Islam and Christianity that makes Islam far more dangerous… Christians cherry pick the bible. They only “believe in” and “practice” the nice bits, and the pieces they like. Whereas that certainly makes Christians incredible hypocrites, it also makes them far less dangerous. Islam is the largest religion in the world that is still openly stoning women, convicting women as criminals for having been raped, and that practices genital mutilation (only on women, of course).

This leads to my next point… People like to mention the “moderate Muslims”. Should we offend them? Should they not be given credit? My answer is simple. You are not guaranteed any protection against being offended in this nation, and I can not give credit to any group of “moderates” that are not actively denouncing the hateful actions Islam takes against women around the world. Their silence serves as quiet condoning of such actions.

I do not believe religion deserves respect. It should not have the special protected status it seems to in our world. Why is it we can poke fun at people’s race, sex, disabilities, ignorance, etceteras, but once we poke fun at religion we are told we “have gone too far”? Why should we be concerned about offense given to anyone who can read books such as the Bible or the Koran and believe they are Holy and infallible? Or worse, why should we be concerned about giving offense to those who follow these dogmas without having read the books all the way through?

Religion in any form is rapidly becoming a greater and greater blight on our society as a whole. It is high time we stop cowering behind political correctness and stand up and demand reason. I do not understand how anyone with half an education can be anything less than outraged at the construction of nearly any new religious institution, much less one intended to hail the glory of an extreme and violent religion that seeks to oppress those that stand in its way.

An excerpt from Kentucky state legislation: “No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club.”

The only acceptable sexual position in Washington, DC is the missionary position. Any other sexual position is considered illegal.

In Michigan a woman isn’t allowed to cut her own hair without her husband’s permission.

It is illegal for any member of the Nevada legislature to conduct official business wearing a penis costume while the legislature is in session.

In Ventura County, California cats and dogs are not allowed to have sex without a permit.

Under Lebanese law, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animals must be female. Having sexual relations with a male animal is expressly forbidden.

A law in Fairbanks, Alaska does not allow moose to have sex on city streets.

In Kingsville, Texas there is a law against two pigs having sex on the city’s airport property.

Women can sell items and be topless in Liverpool, England—but only in tropical fish stores.

Anywhere in the U.S., It’s illegal to use any live endangered species (except for insects) in public or private sexual displays, shows or exhibits depicting cross-species sex.

In the quiet town of Connorsville, Wisconsin, it’s illegal for a man to shoot off a gun when his female partner has an orgasm.

It is illegal for a man and woman to have sex “on the steps of any church after the sun goes down” in Birmingham, England.

In the state of Washington there is a law against having sex with a virgin under any circumstances (including  the wedding night).

A Tremonton, Utah law states that no woman is allowed to have sex with a man while riding in an ambulance. In addition to normal charges, the woman’s name will be published in the local newspaper.

It’s against the law in Willowdale, Oregon, for a husband to curse during sex.

Sodomy laws have been repealed—or are ignored—in most states, but not Georgia, where a man was sentenced to five years in prison for engaging in oral sex. With his wife. With her consent. In their home.

An Oklahoma state representative once proposed a bill requiring that a man explain the dangers of pregnancy and obtain a woman’s written consent before the two could legally engage in sexual intercourse.

In Oblong, Illinois, it’s punishable by law to make love while hunting or fishing on your wedding day.

No man is allowed to make love to his wife with the smell of garlic, onions, or sardines on his breath in Alexandria, Minnesota. If his wife so requests, law mandates that he must brush his teeth.

Warn your hubby that after lovemaking in Ames, Iowa, he isn’t allowed to take more than three gulps of beer while lying in bed with you—or holding you in his arms.

Bozeman, Montana, has a law that bans all sexual activity between members of the opposite sex in the front yard of a home after sundown—if they’re nude.

An ordinance in Newcastle, Wyoming, specifically bans couples from having sex while standing inside a store’s walk-in meat freezer.

In hotels in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, every room is required to have twin beds. The beds must always be a minimum of two feet apart when a couple rents a room for only one night. And it’s illegal to make love on the floor between the beds.

The owner of every hotel in Hastings, Nebraska, is required to provide each guest with a clean and pressed nightshirt. No couple, even if they are married, may sleep together in the nude, nor may they have sex unless they are wearing one of these clean, white cotton nightshirts.

A state law in Illinois mandates that all bachelors should be called master, not mister, when addressed by their female counterparts.

In Norfolk, Virginia, a woman can’t go out without wearing a corset. (There was a civil-service job—for men only—called a corset inspector.)

In Merryville, Missouri, women are prohibited from wearing corsets because “the privilege of admiring the curvaceous, unencumbered body of a young woman should not be denied to the normal, red-blooded American male.”

It’s safe to make love while parked in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Police officers aren’t allowed to walk up and knock on the window. Any suspicious officer who thinks that sex is taking place must drive up from behind, honk his horn three time and wait approximately two minutes before getting out of his car to investigate.

A law in Helena, Montana, mandates that a woman can’t dance on a table in a saloon or bar unless she has on at least three pounds, two ounces of clothing.

Lovers in Liberty Comer, New Jersey, should avoid satisfying their lustful urges in a parked car. If the horn accidentally sounds while frolicking behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, the couple can face a jail term.

A Florida sex law: If you’re a single, divorced, or widowed woman, you can’t parachute on Sunday afternoons.

Women aren’t allowed to wear patent-leather shoes in Cleveland, Ohio—the thinking is that a man might see the reflection of something he shouldn’t.

Vending-machine condom sales are banned in such states as Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

In Texas, no one other than a “registered pharmacist” may sell condoms or other kinds of contraceptives “on the streets or other public places.” No, not even physicians. Anyone who tries to make a few extra bucks doing this will be severely prosecuted for the dire act of “unlawfully practicing medicine.”

Kentucky and Idaho limit condom sales to medical practitioners and licensed pharmacists, but their license to sell the items may not be hung on a wall where it can be seen by customers.

Maine licenses condom sellers and the license must always be on public display.

Nevada, with 35 legal bordellos, has no condom problem. The use of condoms in Nevada brothels is compulsory.

Both Indiana and Ohio have laws that prohibit male skating instructors from having sexual relations with their female students. This misdeed, called “the seduction of female students,” is prosecuted as a felony. This statute applies only to male teachers. It seems female skating instructors may have sex with male students.

Authorities in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed a special piece of legislation governing sexual activities in the toll-collection booths on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The law, which pertains only to female toll collectors, prohibits them from engaging in sex with a truck driver in the confines of a booth.

The city fathers in Clinton, Oklahoma have banned local men from masturbating while observing a couple making love in the back seat of a parked car in a drive-in theater.

In North Carolina, it’s illegal for a man to peep through a window at a woman—yet it’s not against the law for a woman to peep into a room occupied by a man. (Nor is it a violation of the law if a man peeps at another man.)

Until the law was repealed in 1975, California husbands and wives could both get a 15-year penitentiary term for engaging in certain sexual practices. They were specifically prohibited from engaging in any oral activities, even in the privacy of their own bedroom.

In Skullbone, Tennessee, the law bans a woman from “pleasuring a man” while he is sitting behind the wheel of any moving vehicle. Any man stopped and found with the front of his pants undone can be fined a minimum of $50 and serve 30 days in jail.

In California, adultery is punishable by a $1,000 fine and/or one year in prison. In Arkansas, offenders are fined a mere $20 to $100.

Single guys and gals caught in the act of sex in Michigan can be fined as much as $5,000, and they could be sentenced to as many as five years in prison.

Single adults in Texas who are apprehended while having sex are charged with a misdemeanor and given a $500 fine.

Branchville, South Carolina, retains an old piece of legalese covering those who “lewdly and lasciviously associate, bed, and cohabit together, in a public or non-public place.” The amorous couple can be punished with a $500 fine and as much as a six-month prison term.

Rhode Island prohibits unmarried people from partaking of bedroom activities under any circumstances. However, if caught, the lovers are both fined $10.

Unmarried adults in Arizona who decide to fool around a little are committing a serious felony. Anyone single, man or woman, caught having sex can be sent to the penitentiary for three full years.

South Dakota threatens a 10-year prison term for “copulation by means of mouth.” Utah has made this same act a misdemeanor. There, oral sex brings a six-month jail term and a $299 fine. Rhode Island labels it an “‘abominable, detestable crime against nature,” and such activity brings a seven-to-10-year stretch in the penitentiary. It is outlawed in New Mexico where participation is punishable by a $5,000 fine and a two-to-10-year sentence.

Kansas gives one month in jail and a $500 fine for anyone who gets caught with a Hooker.

In Nevada prostitution is legal.

A man can be incarcerated for from one-to-10 years in an Arizona or Washington, DC, prison for causing his wife to be a prostitute.

A man can also get 10 years in Arkansas and 20 years in Maine and Michigan for placing “his spouse in a brothel.” In Missouri, it’s a “high misdemeanor” for a fellow to “force” his wife to sell sexual services on the streets.

Don’t import an Asian woman and make her a prostitute in California. If you’re caught, you could get a year in prison and a $500 fine.

Buckfield, Maine, has a rather unusual law regarding cab drivers and sex. The legislation declares that no taxi driver “will be allowed” to charge a fare to any passenger who gives him sexual favors” in return for a ride home from a nightclub or other “establishment which serves alcoholic beverages,” or any “place of  business” selling liquor.

Carlsbad, New Mexico, retains a law making it illegal under certain conditions for couples to have sex in a parked vehicle during their lunch break from work.  The car or van must have tightly drawn curtains to stop strangers from peeking inside while the activity is taking place.

An old law in Cattle Creek, Colorado bans a man or his wife from making love while bathing in any lake, river or stream.

It’s against the law in Beanville, Vermont, for a road map to be printed and sold or given away if it contains advertising of a “lewd or lascivious nature.” The ban specifically includes ads for massage parlors and hot tubs, as both are believed to be of a “sensual bent.”

It’s against the law to make love to a virgin, whatever the circumstances, anywhere in the state of Washington. According to the wording of the legislation, it’s a major crime even to marry and then spend the night with a virgin bride in that city.

In Anniston, Alabama an old ordinance bans women from using promises of certain physical activities to pay off a bet on a match they are playing. Nor may they initiate sex while hanging around a pool hall.

Women who go out on the streets alone at night in Kansas City, Kansas, can be arrested under an obscure 1901 city ordinance. Any unattended females can be picked up by the police if they are “in the streets or any public place without lawful business and without giving a good accounting of themselves.”

The city of Cottonwood, Arizona banned people from having sex in a vehicle with “flat wheels.” If the vehicle with flat wheels is parked, and you’re caught making love in the front seat, it’s a $25 fine. But if you’re caught playing around while in the back seat, the fine is doubled.

Connecticut still retains an old law forbidding any kind of “private sexual behavior between consenting adults.” This odd law makes absolutely no distinction between married and single couples.

The Louisiana House of Representatives hurriedly approved a unique anti-streaking law. Under it, streakers can be sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary and given a $2,000 fine for streaking “while intending to arouse the desires of minors.”   Streaking with only the “intent of arousing sexual desire” brings a violator a $100 fine and one year in prison.

In Nebraska, buggery, or anal copulation, can bring a whopping 20 years in the penitentiary. And buggery in Pennsylvania can bring transgressors a $5,000 fine and 10 years at hard labor.

South Carolina’s Code of Laws 16-412 includes “the abominable crime of buggery.” A $500 fine and five years in prison are the punishment.

Buggery in Maryland brings a one-to-10-year prison term. Anyone in Kansas caught engaging in this activity (anal sex) draws a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Indiana and Wyoming both have laws against anyone’s enticing, alluring, instigating, or helping a person under 21 to masturbate. This activity is known in legal circles as an act of “self pollution.”

Michigan law prescribes five years in prison for a man who engages “in acts of gross indecency, either in public or private.” This includes mutual masturbation by two men or the simple act of solitary masturbation.

New Jersey law threatens men with a three-year sentence for “mutual masturbation.” The law covers anyone “who, in private, is a party to an act of lewdness or sexual indecency with another.”

No one may have sex while riding in the sidecar of a motorcycle in Norfolk, Virginia, where an old ordinance outlaws anyone from doing so while cruising down a city street.

Procuring or employing an Alabama girl from 10 to 18 years old for prostitution brings a relatively mild $300 to $500 fine and six months in jail.

Prostitutes in South Dakota are still prohibited from plying their trade out of a covered wagon.
