Why we won on Draw Mohammed Day

Famous YouTube video Producer, ThunderF00t, does an excellent job of explaining why we won, and what we won on the first annual “Draw Mohammed Day“, and why it matters.

American Muslims Praise Attacks on Americans

CNN’s Homegrown Terror series exposes the members of the despicable “Revolutiom Muslim” group. These evil people claim to hate everything about America, yet they remain here using their freedom and constitutional rights to spew their hatred.

Why I am going to draw the Prophet Mohammed…

There is a lot of fear and anxiety circulating out there among those who strongly believe in the cause of reason. This fear and anxiety is being stirred by the upcoming International Draw Mohammed Day on May 20th. There are many out there who support the cause of free speech but are genuinely afraid of violent retaliation from Islamic extremists. Their fear is certainly warranted, given the historical reaction of religious extremists of every variety, but most especially Islamic Extremists.

It is EXACTLY because of this violent, extreme and unreasonable reaction that I WILL draw their holy Prophet on May 20th. Furthermore, I will post as many drawings of the Prophet here on my blog as I can find. Let’s be clear, this is not intended as a show of disrespect (though I admit that I see little need to show respect for such ignorance), but it is rather intended to be a demonstrative defense of Freedom of speech. If your religion forbids you from drawing the Prophet, then you should refrain from doing so, but you cannot and must not try to stop others from exercising their right to free speech. You cannot force your particular form of morality on others. Certainly not in a free and civil society.

I feel particularly strong about the importance of standing up in the face of such an oppressive religion when you consider scenes like this one:

During a lecture in Uppsala Lars Vilks, the Swedish cartoonist who drew Mohammed as a dog, was attacked by a pack of feral fundamentalists, one of whom managed to headbutt the artist and break his glasses. Police intervened and waged a short battle with the religious nutters who can be heard in the video above, captured by the newspaper UNT, shouting Allahu Akbar! The Associated Press had a quick report, explaining that “Uppsala University spokeswoman Pernilla Bjork said Vilks was showing a provocative film with sexual content to the crowd when the attacker ran up and hit him in the face with his fists.

With these facts in mind, I hope as many people as possible will join us in the defense of free speech. Draw your own Mohammed, even if it’s just a stick figure. By all means, don’t do it if you are genuinely frightened (which is understandable), but if you are willing to thumb your nose at the ridiculous nature of the oppression of Islam, a religion which claims to be a “religion of peace”, then do your part, and do a doodle of the Prophet!

International Draw Muhammed Day!

As anyone who routinely reads my blog knows, I am a firm believer in freedom of speech. I believe it is one of our most important rights, and one that is most sought after to be restricted or trampled upon. That is why I fully support the First Annual International Draw Muhammed Day, to be held on May 20th.

Just because some blood thirsty mob has been inspired by some primitive and savage desert myth is not a good reason to roll over and surrender one of the oldest and most valued treasures of Western Civilization. It is however a good reason why that religion has no place in the civilized world.

How many other religions incite blood thirsty mobs over cartoons?

How many other religions have angry mobs chanting for the blood of countries, or the bombing of civilians?

It is imperative that the freedom loving people of the world stand up in the face of any religion or organization that would impose tyrannical beliefs upon the free people of the world. That is why I fully support, and intend to participate in the First Annual Draw Muhammed day!

I hope many others will join me.

Free Speech is NOT Negotiable!

Boobquake featured on the Colbert Report!

Wow… Jen McCreight Can really say she hit the big time now, not only was her “call-to-boobs” featured in the New York Post, but now she’s also been featured on the Colbert Report!

Not only is this good for Jen, and certainly for her blog, but I believe it is an important step in the right direction for all of us. The fact is, when crazy extremist religious leaders make ridiculous claims, they should be called out on it. Why is it that for 6000 years religion has remained exempt from the burden of proof? If we are truly to enter an age of enlightenment, we need to begin to seriously make a close examination of our values, our ethics and our beliefs and their source. Why is it that the majority of people maintain the same religion as their parents? Why do so many religious people believe that in the absence of god we’d all be murderers and rapists? And if it is true that in the absence of gods, the religious would be criminals, then does it not stand to reason that Atheists have demonstrated the superior morality?

I say bravo Jen McCreight!

Fact: It’s Time to End the Two Party System in the U.S.

In just a few days, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will have to make a fateful decision — whether to abandon his fight for the GOP Senate nomination and seek election as an independent. A lifelong Republican considered for the vice presidential nomination and once seen as GOP presidential prospect, Crist has fallen far behind conservative challenger Marco Rubio in the primary. Though Crist’s GOP credentials were once unchallenged, his embrace of President Obama’s stimulus money (and of Obama himself in a now fateful photo) has made him the target of Tea Party activists.Republicans are feeling the heat more than Democrats because of the rise of the Tea Party, most of whose members are registered Republicans, and because of long established conservative groups like the Club for Growth. But Democrats are hardly immune. They’re under attack for divergences from a strict party line. Ark. Sen. Blanche Lincoln faces a tough primary because of her lack of enthusiasm for the health care law and other Obama initiatives. And in North Carolina, no fewer than three Democratic incumbents are being challenged by labor unions unhappy with their refusal to vote with the Democratic majority.

What’s odd is that the two parties are being pushed further left and right, despite the fact that a big majority of Americans put themselves in the middle. In fact, Obama won the election in 2008 by appealing to the middle and promising to govern from the center. Liberal Democrats complain that he’s lived up to that promise, making too many compromises they don’t like. Conservative Republicans insist he’s so radical that he’s pushing the U.S. into socialism.

I tend to believe Obama is seeking the center, with the stimulus and health care bills being prime examples. The stimulus was half the size he originally sought (many economists still think bigger would have been better), and he dropped the public option and made scores of other compromises on the health care bill. I’m sure the comments to this post will say I’m crazy — that Obama is so far left he’s un-American — but that will just prove my point.

The tendency toward extreme political views is only growing stronger, in part because the media make a lot of money by pushing it. It’s not a coincidence that half of Tea Party members (in a recent NYT/CBS poll) get most of their “news” from Fox while liberals get theirs from MSNBC. As National Journal’s Charlie Cook noted this week in a column aptly headlined “Home of the Whopper,” commentators on both sides have become very skilled at twisting selected facts to “prove” their presumptions. Unlike the old days (20 years ago), when most Americans read or listened to journalists who at least tried to be objective in giving people facts so they could draw their own conclusions, today’s cable commentators and Web sites give too many people arguments to support the conclusions they already believe in.

That leaves the silent middle with nowhere to go and, worse, no representation in the political arena.

A Fairwell to MySpace…

I joined MySpace in late 2003, only a few months after it was originally launched. I was a member when no one had heard of it, and there was just a small smattering of computer nerds on there. That account went unused for about two and a half years, while I waited for everyone else to catch up. Once MySpace became “cool” it also began to be somewhat useful to me. Indeed, I had friends with whom my only way to communicate was MySpace, I had not seen them in years, and they simply didn’t use e-mail, at least not very often. Well, my relationship with MySpace officially ended tonight when I canceled my account after reading these two articles (Article 1 , Article 2).

Some might call me paranoid, but after having a long relationship with MySpace, which admittedly has been dwindling lately, I have decided it is in my own best interest to terminate my account in order to safeguard my privacy and my intellectual property. I am still on FaceBook, for now, but sadly, I am certain it is only a matter of time before they strike a similar deal.

C’est la vie…

The Story of Supply-Side Jesus

The story of Supply Side Jesus actually shares an important message we can all learn from. In the end it has what I would consider overall to be a “Pro-Christian” message, but more importantly, it demonstrates the hypocrisy and greed that has consumed American Christianity as a whole. Seemed to me that there would be no more appropriate day than Christmas to share such a video. Enjoy, Learn, Think!
